Description: People posing in front of a steam threshing machine and a water wagon. Based on the photograph description the machine belonged to "The Leader" line of steam machines. Leader equipment was produced by The Marion Manufacturing Company, one of the two early steam engine companies based in Marion, Ohio, in the 1880s. Photograph by Harry Evan Kinley (1882-1969), a native of Upper Sandusky. Kinley was active in local events and organizations, and spent his professional career as a clerk at his father's department store, and later as a travelling salesman for the Marion Paper & Supply Company (1934-1962). He was also an avid lifelong photographer, and the bulk of the Harry Kinley Collection is comprised of glass plate negatives documenting the Kinley family, the city of Upper Sandusky and Wyandot County and surrounding areas. Description: Devol's Floating Mill in Belpre. In 1791, Captain Jonathan Devol, upon a proposal from Griffin Greene, designed and built a floating grain mill, which was erected on two boats and anchored within several yards of the Ohio River shore. The community of Fowlers Mill (originally Fowler's Mills) began in 1829, when brothers Milo and Hiram Fowler purchased land on the Chagrin River in Munson Township. Description: John Locke (1792-1856), a geologist and inventor, was among the first in the nation to advocate soil conservation. As a geologist, he participated in government-backed surveys of the Old Northwest, and in the survey of Ohio completed in the mid-1830s. In 1823, Locke opened a School for Young Ladies in Cincinnati, Ohio, and five years later, he also helped establish the Ohio Mechanics Institute.
